24 Hours of Inspirational Tweets (The ULTIMATE Re-Tweet!)

Lesson learned: feeling good is a matter of mind...er, over matter. (Is that right? Uh, yeah...)

Anyway... you can feel good at the drop of a hat. It's a simple process, turn on a great piece of music, spend time with your kids & family, have some time for yourself - or if you can't do any of those things because of where you're at, just remember it in your mind's eye and feel the feelings of that moment. You'll be feeling great in no time!

All The World's A Stage

I've been thinking a lot about acting lately, especially since I have the acting bug in my blood. I've always been a performer of some kind, but I never really got fully immersed in it until I ended in three plays consecutively while in community college, gosh! back around '92. I was in Alice In Wonderland (I played the King of Hearts), The Wind In the Willows (Mr. Toad), and Me and My Girl (Frederick). I took a long hiatus of 14 years between those and my next plays, The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 (Eddie McCuen), The King & I (Lun Tha) and several childrens theater plays in 2006. Then came another 4 year wait until last year, when I did Father of the Bride (George Banks) and Jerome Bixby's The Man From Earth (Dan). I am again on a self-imposed sabbatical while am currently in college to get a degree in Sound Technology. But with several of my theater colleagues currently doing plays (see links below) I have again begun to get itchy feet. I miss the theater.

But it got me to thinking, I mentioned that I have been performing all of my life, wherever there was a living room, I'd put on a show. I think, however, it goes deeper than that.

All of us in this life are actors of some kind. During the day, I play the role of "Vacation Planner" for a major theme park. I play The Goofy Guy at work who can make people smile for a minute or two. I also play The Guy Who Listens To You Vent About That Last Phone Call on occasion. To many people, I play The Quiet Guy Who Sits In the Corner of the Cafeteria by Himself. Then I go to school, in my current role of The Older Guy Who Came Back To College With Life Experience.

Some of us, however, think our "roles" in this life are set in stone. The Person Whom Bad Things Happen To. The Girl Who Ends Up With A Loser Boyfriend. The Man Who Has Fear of Commitment, etc etc.

The point is, we are not the characters we play. They are just characters, facets of who we really are. This life that we're all a part of is a big play, and you get to help write it. What lines will you contribute? And always remember, you can always change your role if you want, whenever you want.

Love,

JC

Life In Balance

One of the major obstacles I have in my personal life is a tendency to look back on life in general with a grand feeling of nostalgia, to a point where I have trouble "fitting in" to my current place in life.

For example: my favorite music styles mostly range between late 40's swing and jump to 50's rockabilly to early 60's Vegas lounge to late 60's surf. My favorite movies tend to lie along this same range.

I am constantly forcing myself not to play "remember when" with people I know on Facebook - and I am very guilty of 'friending' people that I had one small moment in time in common with, trying to expand on that moment.

One of the main "secrets" of the Law of Attraction is very simple: Live in the now. There is only now. You cannot live in the future, and living in the past simply wastes time. (I am, of course, paraphrasing; The idea is sound, though.)

This leads me back to my original issue: I live in the past. I'm a big nostalgic geek. It's one of my most endearing features, but it's also quite annoying, for me as well as others.

My issue is more common than many would believe. The Hopi peoples had a word for it: Koyaanisqatsi. It means, "Life Out Of Balance". This word has been used very often to describe the world in general, and it most certainly can. But in applying it to one's personal life is just as simple - and it can very well set the world at large correctly as well. Make the pieces of the puzzle fit together and the world falls into place.

I am a big proponent of ideas such as Ho'oponopono and using tools such as MindMovies. I recommend both, and I have links on this blog for more info. The point is however to get your life straight, and suddenly the world around you straightens out as well. Some might call that "magic", and that word has been used to describe this phenomenon. It's all part of the Law of Attraction.

So I leave you with this video, mainly because Scrubs is still one of my favorite shows, and secondly the music that underscores both scenes is from the movie "Koyaanisqatsi". Enjoy.

To your success and mine!

Love,
JC

I Believe I'll Have Another

Here's a question for you: Has your faith ever been tested?

Here's another one: Have your beliefs ever been tested?

There's a difference in the two, isn't there? I like to think so. After all, 'faith can move mountains'. So what does belief do? Why don't people say, 'beliefs can move mountains'? R. Kelly sings, "I Believe I Can Fly". Why isn't it, "I Have Faith I Can Fly"?

Isn't believing in something the same as having faith in something?

All the different Faiths in the world all have different beliefs. But the faith is the same isn't it? It's faith in something that's bigger than each of us. But it's the beliefs on exactly what that is that's different.

My beliefs are always tested, sometimes by myself, other times by other people. My belief that humanity is essentially good is always being tested. My belief in various religions have at one point or another been tested. My belief in love, either personal or spiritual, has been tested.

By my faith is not. I have faith in the good of mankind. I have faith that there's something bigger than I can see out there. I have faith that love does exist and can heal all wounds.

I have often heard the phrase, as I'm sure you have as well, of having a "child-like faith" in things. But ask yourself this: As a child did you 'believe' in Santa Claus, or did you have faith in Santa Claus?

I think beliefs stem from faith. I don't know where faith comes from. I'm not sure I want to find out.

But maybe that's the real secret. Maybe you have to believe in faith. I think I'll give that a try.

To your success and mine!

Love,

JC

Coffee Mug Sessions

I like to believe that the spiritual journey I'm on right now started in very recently. And by very recently I mean in the last 5 years or so. True, most of my recent learning on the subject of the Law of Attraction is all within the past couple of years - starting with The Secret, as it did with a lot of people. But to be perfectly honest, and thinking about it rationally, this journey began for me over 20 years ago when I met a young man named Glen Motil.

Glen and I ended up working at a movie theater back around 1991. Honestly I can't remember exactly, but it was right around that time. We felt an immediate kinship as we help open a new movie theater in Oceanside, California. Glen had recently been discharged from the Marine Corps; I had taken the labor route out of high school, opting to go straight to work instead of going to college - a move that although I meet with some regret, that choice and the myriad others that came with it led me here.

Glen had enrolled himself at the local community college, and was soaking up learning like a thirsty sponge. ("Thirsty Sponge" would be an awesome name for a rock band.) I don't know what it was about going to college that kept me away, but it was not my path - at least not directly. For although I wasn't going to school, I was learning vicariously through Glen. He and I would sit for hours discussing poetry, creative writing, art, philosophy, music, theater; things that still resonate highly with me. It all started in that little one bedroom apartment.

During these times, we would brew a big pot of coffee, and as we discussed the latest writer he had discovered in his creative writing course, we became energized through the natural buzz of coffee, and the pure discovery of learning. My favorite discussions were when we discussed philosophy and religion in general. Over time I grew to realize that all religious teachings and all the positive messages in the world that were given to us by various teachers, all seemed to stem from a central point of view: Love is all there is, and the thing we call God, Allah, the Universe or the Great Spirit is all energy. Or, as Glen so eloquently put it during one of these Coffee Mug Sessions, "I believe God exists where you and I connect."

If that is true, that God exists where two people connect, then God is truly everywhere, and everywhere all at once. If we can agree on that, then it stands to reason that God exists in you and me. We call upon the God-part of us when we need help, assistance and nurturing. If God does exist within you and me, then each of us is God, and that phrase in the Bible makes more sense, "I am". We create our own life, our own path, our own destiny, because we can follow our own truth. When we finally acknowledge the God-part of us - not only acknowledge, but honor - we begin to see that we are not alone in this world. We only seem to be a small piece of the puzzle that is the Universe, but appearances can be deceiving. We are One. More importantly, I am One.

Hmmm.... we're out of Don Francisco...
