Peace

Today has started out like any other Friday, except for the fact that it's so close to Christmas now I can taste it.

That is, until I heard what happened in Connecticut. Another senseless tragedy. I still can't make heads nor tails of the whole thing. And yet...

And yet as I sit here typing these words, there's a peaceful calm in the house. "Silent Night" is playing in the background, the joyous strains of the choir invoking a world that perhaps is no longer a reality.

Oh, but I refuse to believe that.

Because it IS Christmas time, no matter what. And is this time of confusion, and pain, and fear, there is also hope. And love. And peace. My heart grieves for those families. But hopefully amidst this tragedy, we can all learn something.

Life is precious. We are not promised tomorrow. In the middle of this season, this season which has turned into something so crass, so shallow, so commercialized, the only thing that is important is that we are here, right now, together on this rock spinning around and around. You and I, and our friends and families. And that is what is important. What good is a game system, or a bunch of DVDs, or anything else under that tree unless we are here, together.

So for what it's worth, I am saying to all of you, friends, family, people I knew once before, and people I may yet know, Merry Christmas. I love you. God bless us, everyone.
