Here's a question for you: Has your faith ever been tested?
Here's another one: Have your beliefs ever been tested?
There's a difference in the two, isn't there? I like to think so. After all, 'faith can move mountains'. So what does belief do? Why don't people say, 'beliefs can move mountains'? R. Kelly sings, "I Believe I Can Fly". Why isn't it, "I Have Faith I Can Fly"?
Isn't believing in something the same as having faith in something?
All the different Faiths in the world all have different beliefs. But the faith is the same isn't it? It's faith in something that's bigger than each of us. But it's the beliefs on exactly what that is that's different.
My beliefs are always tested, sometimes by myself, other times by other people. My belief that humanity is essentially good is always being tested. My belief in various religions have at one point or another been tested. My belief in love, either personal or spiritual, has been tested.
By my faith is not. I have faith in the good of mankind. I have faith that there's something bigger than I can see out there. I have faith that love does exist and can heal all wounds.
I have often heard the phrase, as I'm sure you have as well, of having a "child-like faith" in things. But ask yourself this: As a child did you 'believe' in Santa Claus, or did you have faith in Santa Claus?
I think beliefs stem from faith. I don't know where faith comes from. I'm not sure I want to find out.
But maybe that's the real secret. Maybe you have to believe in faith. I think I'll give that a try.
To your success and mine!
Love,
JC
